Attribute Synchronization

The AssetWise ALIM ProjectWise Connector supports synchronization of attributes from AssetWise ALIM to ProjectWise, and from ProjectWise to AssetWise ALIM.

Attribute mapping rules are configured using AssetWise Director. The mapping rules are stored in the AssetWise ALIM database for use by the AssetWise ALIM ProjectWise Connector. Mapping rules can occur at different levels of the structure hierarchy. The synchronization direction is determined by the attribute mapping rules that are defined in AssetWise Director. To assign attribute mappings, see "To Configure Attribute Mappings on a Monitored Folder" in AssetWise Director Help.

Bidirectional Synchronization

With bidirectional synchronization, the attribute value may originate either from AssetWise ALIM to ProjectWise, or from ProjectWise to AssetWise ALIM.

When registering a document, all bidirectional attribute values are derived from the system that contains the document that is being registered. For example, if a document is registered from ProjectWise to AssetWise ALIM, the bidirectional attribute values come from ProjectWise. Conversely, if a document is registered from AssetWise ALIM to ProjectWise, the attribute values come from AssetWise ALIM.

For documents that have attributes configured with bidirectional synchronization, if the action performed is an attribute synchronization, then the bidirectional attribute value will be determined from the most recently updated document.

Bidirectional attribute synchronization follows these rules:
  • For initial registration of documents, all bidirectional attribute values originate from the system that contains the document that is being registered

  • For attribute synchronization actions, the bidirectional attribute originates from the most recently updated document.
